Catherine Ryan’s artistic practice has included painting, drawing/illustration, sewing/knitting, and designing apparel. She is also currently an Employment Counsellor where she applies creative skills and concepts to assisting individual clients with their life planning and goals. Under this position, Catherine co-coordinated the Community Youth Arts (Harbour Side Studio) Program in 2011-2012, working with and providing support to young artists throughout an intensive 1-year program.
Catherine’s artistic training includes informal mentorship with local artists and designers, and a wide variety of Craftsy and Skillshare online classes. She has learned much from researching and delving into various mediums over the past 6+ years, experimenting continuously with different techniques/tools, and seeking opportunities and feedback from local artists. Catherine finds the process of personal expression through artistic creation to be a fascinating challenge that is very rewarding.
Catherine’s artistic accomplishments include Volunteer Wardrobe Coordinator for the production ‘Live from Quidi Vidi Brewery’ (2007), the development of a piece that was reproduced, enlarged, and installed onto the side of a building in St. John’s, NL (2018). In July and November 2022, Catherine exhibited in a group exhibitions with the Torbay History House. In September 2023, Catherine exhibited 27 pieces in her first solo exhibition with the Torbay History House.
Catherine currently lives in Torbay, Newfoundland, and practices from her home-based art studio.
